3) List 2 new uses in the United States for steel

4) How did the use of electricity transform american business?

5) How did new inventions and products affect people at home and at work?

1) What led the nations oil boom?
The first discovery of oil in Titusville, PA was the initial cause. The invention and growth of the automobile was next. Large oil discoveries in Texas and oil drilling by wildcatters was next. Finally, the development of the interstate highway system further increased our oil use.

2) What was the Bessmer process and how did it fuel steel production?
It improved on previous methods of steel production, making it cheaper and better.
"The Bessemer process revolutionized steel manufacture by decreasing its cost, and greatly increasing the scale and speed, while also decreasing the labour requirements. Prior to its introduction, steel was far too expensive to make bridges or the framework for buildings and wrought iron had been used throughout the Industrial Revolution. After its introduction, steel and wrought iron became similarly priced, and most manufacturers turned to steel."

3) List 2 new uses in the United States for steel
As supports in reinforced concrete
Railroad tracks
Structural steel in modern buildings and bridges
Wires

4) How did the use of electricity transform American business?
"Electricity is used within telecommunications, and indeed the electrical telegraph, demonstrated commercially in 1837 by Cooke and Wheatstone, was one of its earliest applications. With the construction of first intercontinental, and then transatlantic, telegraph systems in the 1860s, electricity had enabled communications in minutes across the globe. Optical fibre and satellite communication technology have taken a share of the market for communications systems, but electricity can be expected to remain an essential part of the process.

The effects of electromagnetism are most visibly employed in the electric motor, which provides a clean and efficient means of motive power. A stationary motor such as a winch is easily provided with a supply of power, but a motor that moves with its application, such as an electric vehicle, is obliged to either carry along a power source such as a battery, or by collecting current from a sliding contact such as a pantograph, placing restrictions on its range or performance."

5) How did new inventions and products affect people at home and at work?
Convenience and luxury. Safer than open flames.
