Back in 2006, I had a lot of time and decided that it is really critical time to look back at the history of the first oil boom which took place around 100-120 years ago. Why it was done in 2006? Because in this year we started to feel the outcome of the second oil boom and it would be interesting for the people to look what it was looking like first time. The documentary explores the most dramatic and significant period of Azerbaijan history such as building Baku-Sollar pipeline, a first girl’s gymnasia of the Muslim world, Opera and Ballet Theater in the heart of Baku. The film has special edition devoted to Haci Zeynalabdin Tagiyev, Murtuza Muxtarov and Musa Nagiyev. Ilk Neftin pariltisi was produced by ANS TV and with strong support of Seyfulla Mustafayev and Mir Sahin Aqayev. Sinecely,Zaur

What does the world’s fourth richest man want from in life, is it to be number one?
How does a man who was born into Saudi Royalty, just before the oil boom, prove that he is a self-made man?
Who does a man who mixes with Kings, Presidents and the most successful businessmen in the world, look up to?
Why does a billionaire who can buy whatever he wants, most enjoy being in the middle of an empty desert?
This is the enigma of Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal. Climbing to be one of the richest men on the planet, Alwaleed has proved himself to be an extraordinary businessman and investor.
This documentary tells the story of how the world’s hardest working billionaire turned his tough upbringing to his advantage.
Applying Western business tactics and negotiating hard, Alwaleed introduced his country to the concepts of hostile takeovers, mergers and acquisitions, and performance-related incentives.
But most of his wealth has come from investing in top western brands.
Alwaleed caused an international stir after he gave a US$10 million cheque to New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani for his twin tower fund following the 911 attacks. The money was rejected when he called on the US to re-examine its policy towards the Middle East. Keeping his family close beside him
and observing the Muslim prayer five times a day, Alwaleed walks a thin line that bridges East and West.

Nigeria’s lucrative oil reserves may have enriched its politicians but they’ve brought little but misery to ordinary people. Now, a rebel group is fighting for a share of the profits. “I need help. I need help,” begs a woman, clutching her young children in despair. Her home has just been demolished to create luxury housing for foreign oil workers. “The oil boom has turned into the oil doom!” laments Pastor Lekia. Across the Niger Delta, there’s growing resentment at the oil industry. “Corruption pervades the whole place, starting with the way contracts are awarded,” complains lawyer Ledum Mittee. “There seems to be some sort of collusion between the oil companies and those in power.” But militia leader Asari Dokubo has vowed to sever that link. He’s fighting to seize control of the oil and give it back to the people. “We own the oil!” he proclaims. “The thieves are the people in Abuja.” And across Nigeria, young men are flocking to his call. Last September, he spooked the international markets and forced the price of oil to $50 a barrel by threatening to attack foreign oil companies. The government was forced to agree a truce but he’s threatened to rearm unless oil companies leave. Nigerians no longer expect help from their own government. It’s militia leaders like Asari who are winning their trust.

Crude Independence is a documentary film about the heartland in the process of transplanting itself, and its new heart is pumping oil. In 2006, the United States Geological Survey estimated there to be more than 200 billion barrels of crude oil resting in a previously unreachable formation beneath western North Dakota. With the advent of new drilling technologies, oil companies from far and wide are descending on small rural towns across the state with men and machinery in tow. Director Noah Hutton takes us to the town of Stanley (population 1300), sitting atop the largest oil discovery in the history of the North American continent, and captures the change wrought by the unprecedented boom. Through revealing interviews and breathtaking imagery of the northern plains, Crude Independence is a rumination on the future of small town America—a tale of change at the hands of the global energy market and Americas unyielding thirst for oil.
