Here’s video of Obama’s statements to the San Francisco Chronicle board earlier this year.

Look at all the states and mines that would lose jobs under Obama’s
burdensome plan. What does he expect these workers to do?

Obama’s plans don’t seem to help solve our energy needs, reduce dependence on foreign oil or help the economy by closing an industry, many companies and losing millions of jobs.
Because he is an idiot when it comes to energy policy. He does not realize that the policies he espouses will bankrupt the common people and make electricity so expensive we will all have to do without at least part of the day. There is no quick replacement for coal fired power plants. Any nuclear plants are at least 20-30 years in the future and due to ignorance in the green sector none have been built. The manufacturers of solar and wind equipment are strapped to the limit and we have no way to distribute power from the remote wind locations so, his force disuse of coal will be counter productive. Especially since the clean idea of electric cars will outstrip all power production in just a few years. read very carefully a transition away from coal is a wise idea but it cannot happen quickly because it will put the economy in a much worse situation than it already is. Nations like France produce about 75-80% of electricity from nuclear cheaply and safely. Our only salvation is going to be to get nuclear plants online along with wind and solar quickly and with as little crap as possible otherwise I fear we may not survive as a people. He has some really stupid ideas and people are buying it. Duh

This whole argument revolves around a cap and trade policy…well guess what…McCain has the same plan. This is one area they agree on. Read it and weep..it is in big bold letters so you can’t miss it: http://www.johnmccain.com/climatechange/
So if you are against Obama for this reason…then you are also against McCain. So in other words…try again.

Obama and McCain support similar cap-and-trade systems, which would make it prohibitively expensive to build new coal plants with existing, high-emissions technology.

McCain and Obama both support the cap-and-trade system referred to in that interview.

Well Murtha calls people in his own district hillbillies and red necks, wonder when they are going to throw that bum out once and for all.

Get your facts straight… Anyone ready to believe it get the full transcript…
Ohio Governor Ted Strickland response on issue:
“After John McCain said he’d like to ‘transition away from coal entirely,’ his campaign is hardly in a position to criticize a coal state Senator like Barack Obama who has outlined a $150 billion investment in clean coal and other technologies to create jobs and build a new energy economy. The truth is, John McCain and Sarah Palin can’t name a single thing they’d do differently on the economy than George Bush, so all they have to offer is last minute, desperate distortions. Hardworking families don’t need more Washington-style political attacks, they need a President who will create jobs and stand up for the middle class – and that’s Barack Obama.”

To John V, actually Murtha said that Obama had a problem with racism in western Pennsylvania. Then he tried to make it better by calling them a bunch of old rednecks. Funny how the liberals are the only one playing the race card in this election huh? Damn liberals, you can’t help but hate them.

Because many many more people will be out of jobs if climate change is allowed to progress as it currently is. Jobs will be the last thing on people’s minds in that scenario too, btw.
Besides, the jobs lost in the coal industry will be replaced by new jobs in greener energy sectors.
I’m not sure how clean coal works, but Obama is in favor of that also. So maybe it won’t be a complete loss for coal people.

Oh boy. Do not compare John Mccain and Barack Obama on this topic. Yes they both believe in cap and trade. However in NO WAY does Mccain think that taxing coal companies to the point of BANKRUPTCY is the way to move to more eco-friendly energies. Yes it is the same plan but Obama is taking that plan to the extreme. Do not try to save Barack Obama on this one because that is just wrong.
