Ok Stan, if we have plenty of oil left, then why do we import 60% of the oil we use. Could it be that we already burned more than half of our reserves in the U.S.? The U.S. is already post peak oil.

When I was a young …
When I was a young lad, I used to walk to school. And every August it was “Spot the new car !” one family in perhaps 4 or 5 had a car. Now it`s every family has 2 or 3 cars. And no one walks to school. I`ve seen kids driven 100 yards to their school. And we wonder why the price of oil goes up ? It`s because it can. Simple as that. If people will pay the price, producers will be more than willing to demand it.

if everyone on earth wanted to live like eastern Europeans, we need 2x the Earth,s carrying capacity;
If everyone on the planet was to live like the average american, we’d need to multiply our production of natural resources (renewables and non-renewables) by 5!!!!

Yes but I found Kunstler was almost EAGER for the Apocalypse.
Furthermore, there is absolutely nothing to suggest that with technology, careful use of the coal, solar and geothermal available can certainly accommodate more centralized living systems, centered around rail, as in Japan.
I think this is not the most probable outcome but that is largely a lack of planning & foresight.

Everything in our society is dependent on oil. Food, trade, jobs, plastics, travel… Take a look at everything in your home and realize it was all made possible by cheap oil. You are able to live 30 miles outside a city because of cheap oil.
The people better wake up and realize the vacation is over. Read The Long Emergency by James Kunstler. It will rock your world.

That is a croc of . Oil is not abiotic. If that were true why don’t we just tap into the magical basement full of new oil? Then why has our domestic production been in percipitous decline since 1971? Because there isnt any new places to stick a pipe and get gushers of oil like we used to be able to do. We used it, we burnt it. Its gone. There is no replacing it for another several million years until all the carbon gets buried in an anoxic sea and cooked again.

Absolutely a myth. …
Absolutely a myth. Russia has proven again and again that oil is Abiotic, and comes from below the crystalline basement.
Oil is not a ‘fossil fuel’. The earth creates it.
That’s not to say we can’t do better with what we have…but peak oil is a huge myth. There’s plenty of oil at home.
