I recently dropped an oil lamp (used as insect repellent) into my pool. Now the water is cloudy and there is an oil sheen on top of the water. I don’t know what type of oil this is but would appreciate any ideas on how to remove this oil.
Tennis balls. Yes tennis balls! The material in the balls absorb the oil into itself. Put about four of five all around the pool, let them sit for about 3 hours without the pump. After that run the pump with the balls and they should take out the oil, try the next day with new tennis balls and repeat the process.

Do what the environmentalists do. Use a bunch of duck/bird feathers. They float at the top of water and absorb most everything. You can get allot of them if you go but about 4-8 cheap pillows at the store. You will need to take the pillow end off and put the feathers in some netting. The laundry section of the store usually have bags like this for washing fine clothing. It will be where the clothesline supplies and ironing boards are. You will also see vetted laundry bags for carrying clothes. The netting will work the best because more of the feathers will be exposed. You just have to tie a light rope(like nylon/plastic feel) to it so that you can pull it vert slowly around the pool and let it sit for a while. You’ll notice after a while. Remember that they use this same method when the oil tankers spill into the ocean. You may have to repeat this with clean feathers. Good luck and ask someone about cloudiness for your kind of pool that you have.(plastic,cement.etc) All pools can be different from each other and require different things!!:>)

I would take an inner tube and pin a couple of big fluffy towels around it with safety pins and let it float around the pool. You can then throw your towels in the washing machine and do it again if it didnt get it all.

you will need to clean your filter cartridges or backwash your sand or DE filter and recharge your filter if you have a DE filter. then use a product called sea clear green to bind the small particles together so your filter can catch them. you can also use a product called jacks magic if you have a DE or sand filter.

This may sound silly, but if it were me I would try that DAWN dish soap, you may have bubbles for a while, better than oil.
