Bad things: poorly maintained or constructed, oil wells can cause oil and gas to be spilled into the enviornment (oceans, seas, rivers, or on land).
good things HEAVILY outweigh the bad things, all of which can be fixed.

Good things: they produce oil and gas, aka energy, which makes the world go round.
Bad things: oil wells provide some of the most dangerous working environments in the world. Also if not carefully controlled they can cause potentially disastrous environmental contamination.
But as stated above, in the present economic and cultural climate the good points far outweigh the bad, which is why oil companies are still thriving.
