It’s probably in flux. In terms of beneath the ground or level of the water? North Sea fields are far beneath the ocean but not that deep into the ground. Deep Sea wells are still getting into deeper water.
My guess is about 2 miles underground. I understand oil needs to be a max of 11000 feet underground. References :
