Oil Industry in Abu Dhabi, UAE – ADMA-OPCO

Posted by admin on July 27th, 2009 and filed under oil industry | 25 Comments »

Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Company (ADMA-OPCO), is a pioneering oil and gas producer whose operations date back to the 1950s, and are centred in the offshore areas of Abu Dhabi. Oil and gas production comes from two major fields Umm Shaif and Zakum. The crude is collected from these fields using giant steel structures called supercomplexes, and then transferred to Das Island, a nearby industrial base, for processing, storing and world export.

The first oil discovery in Abu Dhabi was made in 1958 in Umm Shaif and the first oil shipment exported from Abu Dhabi to the world market came out on July 4th, 1962 from the same field.
Over the years, the Company adopted the latest in drilling techniques and technologies, starting with vertical, then deviated and ultimately horizontal drilling. The advancement in drilling is necessitated by the need to optimise oil and gas production.

“For years thousands of children from Pakistan and Bangladesh, some as young as three, were sold by poor families to human traffickers, who passed them on to camel racers in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, where the sport is very popular. The owners preferred young children as jockeys because they believed their screams made the camels run faster.”

Not entirely. Abu Dhabi is still dependant but they are in the process of diversifying their economy. A quick search on Google would show you the vast multi billion dollar projects they are undertaking. The government also has hundreds of billions of investments in Western as well as Eastern countries. The nearby emirate of Dubai is now not dependant on Oil but on finance services and tourism.

UAE leaders when speaking to all arab people:
“Dear arabs, you see Iran is powerful like a lion (unlike us)..Now, I am strong enough to make it angry by saying Arabian Gulf instead of Persian Gulf…ha ha ha..I can even say it your islands are mine…”…and the wealthy arab person smiles at tv and goes back to bed with his wives! Some miles away in other arab countries, poor arab kid sleeps hungry in street and doesn’t know the new name for Persian Gulf is a good thing to feed him or not.

What jibberish are you talking about? After living in the UAE as a foreigner for most of my life, Oil is their blessing. If you watch the video from start to finish, 40 years ago it was a poor desert backwater. Now it is one of the richest, most successful countries in the world. As far as Politics goes, I think they do not need Western democracy as their current political system works well and everyone is happy. I think democracy will destabilise them and be susceptible to outside powers.
