The contract would clearly state that all new oil drilled would go straight into the American market. It can not be sold to any other countries. This contract would then be made into law and then we would give them the go ahead to drill.
Would oil companies agree to this?
The only people advocating nationalization of the oil companies are the republicans who think drilling for oil 8-10 years down the road will lower oil prices.
You guys are living in fantasy land. The only solution is conservation and alternative technology. It works in other countries, don’t know why it can’t work in America.

Oh yeah like the would agree to that. Most people dont even know that if we do off shore drilling, the gas would be sold on the world market, not just to the USA. It’s not going to make a bit of difference.

I do not… this is a free market economy, what you are describing is more along the lines of Communism… however, because the US is still the worlds largest consumer of oil and it would be cheaper and therefore more profitable to sell the oil on domestic markets rather than export it, it’s a good bet most of the oil will end up in your tank…

Hmmm, nice concept, but like most Liberal ideas, it shortsighted. What would prevent oil companies taking out the same amount of the current domestic supply to offset the new oil and ship that to other countries?
How about this contract…any new taxes collected by the Federal government under an Obama administration should go directly to the citizens of this country and not to support their friends in the World Community?

Yes they would, if the American populace signed a contract agreeing not to buy foreign oil. This situation would drive the price of gas up instead of down though, so it would completely defeat the purpose.

I disagree. Drilling for oil will produce results in 2030. End the sanctions in Iraq. Iraq is second only to Saudi Arabia in terms of oil production. I think that is the best short-term solution.
