Bu$h / Cheney has used their buddy relationship with big oil to rip off America while the oil companies successfully lobbied auto makers to keep on producing gas guzzlers.
Would rescuing an industry that made oil men rich be the right thing to do?
I think big oil should bail US out. With the price of gas pushing $5 a gallon earlier this year, they are in large measure responsible for the average American’s food, fuel, and living expenses going up dramatically. This likely played a big part in slowing the economy, though not as big as failed mortgages and the like, it certainly hastened the demise.
Therefore, they, the obscene profit makers, should have to give back all of their tax breaks and pay a lot to offset some of the losses this country has suffered as a result of international greed and stupid speculation.

What a great question and I think they should. The oil companies should look at it like future stock….bail them out, produce more affordable cars, people buying more cars, people spending more on gas! YES, I think that is a great idea!!!! You should be a politician!

It would be nice if some rich company or person stepped up to give them the bridge loan they are requesting but it’s really not the government’s place to ask one company to help another.

nope. no one should be paying for the bailouts not even the government. It is not anyone’s fault but the industries for getting themselves in this mess and they should go bankrupt if they didn’t take care of thigns that should have been taken care of.
That’s how a free market works you get crashes like the ones we are in now WHEN the government interfeers.

No I believe the unions that have millions of dollars to put into political races should just funnel some of that money to the actual car companies. I think they have a history of funneling monies where they want it to go so why not back to the car companies.

oil companies should pay for the bailouts and healthcare for all AMericans as well as food and housing subsidies for the poor and middle class

The oil companies had no control over the unions. We do other things with oil other that drive our cars.
Will the oil companies pay? Or will they pass those costs on to the middle and poorer class? Both gas and heating oil will go up.

They should be forced into bankruptcy.
NO bailout.
The automakers are profitable in Asia, Europe, and Latin America, selling cars that get 65/mpg.
They don’t have the CAFE standards forced on them by the Democratic Congress in the 1970s that forced them to make cars that NOBODY wanted to buy.
They also aren’t saddled with outrageous contracts with the monopolistic UAW, which has used the Democratic party as protection.
The UAW contracts add $1500 to $2000 to the cost of EVERY American car.
Toyota and the other car makers who located in Right-to-Work States in the US are making money producing cars that people WANT, and are not bound by the Democrats’ CAFE jerk-around.
What does this tell you?
If the automakers go into bankruptcy, they can restructure and shed the CAFE and UAW problems.
They can become as successful as Toyota is in the US..
They can even be as successful as they are all over the rest of the world.
They don’t need a bailout.
They need to get rid of the stuff the Democrats forced on them.
It was BAD business for America.
All of us have paid the price for TOO MANY years.
What’s so hard about this?
