“Pocket” illustrates the clear choice in this election between an approach that keeps us sending billions to oil companies and foreign governments and one that gives middle class families a $1,000 rebate funded by a windfall profits tax on the oil companies. On the air…

I hope Americans …
I hope Americans wake up, and realize they have been conned and tricked by people like Bush and McCain. McCain doesn’t care if your child needs a heart operation. He is against universal health care. He is married to a rich heiress, and the taxpayers pay for his health care. The Neo-Con Republicans just want to make billionaires even richer, at the expense of everyone else. They lied to start phony wars. They looted the Treasury, and shredded the Constitution. Record debt. Terrible economy.

D) When this ad …
D) When this ad says $1000 for families for gas, it implies that all families get this. This is not true, if you research this you find that it is only a small percentage of families. I don’t think this is good policy either, but again that’s not the point of this post.
See Below.

Both sides make …
Both sides make misleading ads. I am not a huge supporter of either candidate and I don’t know who I am going to vote for, but everyone please be cautious and take all campaign ads with a grain of salt. Don’t blindly follow any candidate. Your duty to your country isn’t to vote… it is to vote as an informed citizen. You are doing everyone a disservice if you don’t inform yourselves of the facts and then go vote anyways.

McCains primary …
McCains primary concern is to make oil companies richer.
He wants:
- Extra Drilling = more oil profit.
- War in Iraq & Iran = more oil profit.
- To Open ANWR = more oil profit.
- No specific green targets (only feel good waffle!) = more oil profit.
- Gas tax holiday = higher prices & more oil profit (its been tried).
- No windfall tax on big oil companies to invest in raising car MPGs = more oil profit.
McCain has been bought & paid for.
He works for them.

We export 70% of …
We export 70% of our domestic oil anyway. Offshore drilling will take years to have an effect at the gas pump. This is why offshore drilling won’t drop gas prices. $1000 is a nice step, but it’s only a small piece of the puzzle. Wanna know another piece of the puzzle? NASCAR recommends that you check your tire pressure to make sure you don’t lose gas mileage. Food 4 thought.

Alternative energy programs are further beneficial–they can create as many as 5 million new jobs!

wow, what was your comment? must’ve been a bad one…
September 11th, 2009 at 2:36 am
The only thing is …
The only thing is that Oil Companies are sitting on leases of 68 MILLION ACRES of land. they won’t drill because they need the price to stay up. Even if we drill the oil goes to the World Oil Market–it could be sold to Russia or China. ANWR and off-shore drilling is being used as a wedge issue.
If the oil companies would give up some of their leases or drill them, then it would make sense…this is just a land grab for future profits.
September 11th, 2009 at 2:36 am
And the oil …
And the oil companies won’t build the added tax into the price? Don’t be a fool… Obama is a socialist that wants to redistribute wealth. It won’t work.
September 11th, 2009 at 2:36 am
I think it is a bad …
I think it is a bad idea, because instead of using money on getting more oil, we should use that money to create and develope other and more green sources of energi. The drilling question is a question on where should we focus our money to get the most and the best out of them.
September 11th, 2009 at 2:36 am
We gotta be tough …
We gotta be tough on oil. Obama’s plan is structured for decreased demand, while mccain’s is for increased supply.
These oil companies have all kinds of land ready to drill on, USE IT OR LOSE IT

Actually, ethanol …
Actually, ethanol and such were once used in the early days of automobiles.
September 11th, 2009 at 2:36 am
Windfall profits …
Windfall profits taxes aren’t supposed to lower the price of oil…who the told you that? The price of oil is up because speculators want it to be…not because of “supply and demand” The republicans know drilling won’t do …they are just trying to keep their seats in november. If it was “supply and demand” why hasn’t the new drilling of china and brazil lowered the prices?
September 11th, 2009 at 2:36 am
Windfall profits …
Windfall profits taxes do nothing to decrease the price of oil.
Also, If we want to decrease dependence on foreign oil…why tax American oil companies?
September 11th, 2009 at 2:36 am
I dont think that …
I dont think that tax rebates are enough. We’ve been using oil for only 100 years or so to fule our cars. Its time we look to a new source. Ethanol… however if we divert corn towards ethanol production it will cause an increase in the price of beef and chicken which rely on corn as feed. Instead we should legalize industrial hemp wich could be used to both feed animals and also create the enzymes needed to make ethanol.

From a non-partisan engineer’s standpoint, I must say that the technology to power our nation on clean energy is available NOW, waiting to be implemented. We are “the land of big ideas”.

Gold ole Juan …
Gold ole Juan McSame, he really knows how to listen to the big oil companies and follow their directions. He has even been given the good seal of approval by Cheney. What else could America want out of a President?
