Does anyone have experience with converting a diesel vehicle to run on waste vegetable oil (WVO)?

Posted by admin on October 14th, 2009 and filed under pennsylvania oil | 8 Comments »

I have a 2003 diesel VW Beetle and have been thinking about doing this. Can anyone who has actually had a vehicle converted offer any advice on this? How difficult is it to get oil? For example would talking a 1000 mile road trip be out of the question? How much does the conversion cost? How do these fuel systems do in cold weather. I’m in NE Pennsylvania…do you know of a reputalbe WVO distributor/converter? Thanks for any advice -
While I enjoy reading everyone’s answers, I’d really like only serious ones, please…from people who have first (or at most second) hand knowledge with these systems. If you know, or heard they are bad, please provide details – WHY did the engine blow up? Again, thanks so much!
I’m afraid I’m starting to lose steam for this idea, so to speak. Here are some warnings I found about making biodiesel. This does NOT sound like a novice project to me!

- THESE ARE DANGEROUS/POISONOUS CHEMICALS
- YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR ACTIONS AND THE SAFETY OF YOURSELF AND
EVERYONE/EVERYTHING AROUND YOU
- METHANOL IS A POISON WHICH CAN BE ABSORBED THROUGH YOUR SKIN, BY
INHILATION, OR CONSUMPTION
- METHANOL CAN CAUSE BLINDNESS AND DEATH
- METHANOL IS AS FLAMMABLE AS GASOLINE/PETROL
- CARTRIDGE RESPIRATORS DO NOT WORK WITH METHANOL
- Sodium hydroxide (Caustic soda, NaOH, lye) can cause severe burns and death.
- Long-sleve shirt, full shoes and trousers are recommended, no shorts or sandals.
- Wear chemical proof gloves, apron, and eye protection.
- Do NOT inhale any vapors.
- Always have running water available to wash off any splashes.

The engine will NOT blow up by running WVO! It is the same thing as the Soy Diesel that you can get in most cities in the US.

First you need to make or buy the converter. It separates the solids that can clog fuel filters and cause fuel to gel up in cold weather. This is a link for kits to do it. You can make your own, I used to have the instructions for it but lost them and don’t remember where I found it.

This is in reality better than petro-diesel, because it adds lubricants to the fuel that the government has required the fuel companies remove.

Your engine will NOT need to be modified.

Another trick is propane! You inject a VERY SMALL AMOUNT of propane into the engine it will act as an accelerant and will enable your engine to completely burn all fuel and virtually eliminate "black smoke". Your mileage should increase 2-6 MPG. Google it to find a kit for your car.

What’s Made Palin unleash on Obama about his vow to BK coal companies/ jobs in Pennsylvania,Virginia & Colorad?

See this latest news.

In a tape from the San Francisco Chronicle, Obama vows to bankrupt coal companies by expensive burdens and fines he will "ratchet down" every year.

Pennsylvania is the nation’s largest producer, and only source, of anthracite coal and stands to lose over 20,000 jobs!

Virginia and West Virginia are also coal producers and would lose
over 12,000 jobs combined.

The country will lose the energy coal provides with no way to replace it now except to buy more foreign oil.

See the full story, Obama’s video, and hear Obama’s remarks at:
http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/blogs/fortyfourthestate/

Sarah Paliln is particularly fired up it seems because she believes in coal as a necessary source of energy that can be cleaned up and expand American jobs.

27 states produce coal including western states Colorado, Wyoming, midwest Montana, Indiana, and southeast Kentucky and other Appalachian states.

But Pennsylvania is the largest single producer and its economy depends on the coal industry with over 20,000 jobs affected at
various levels.

All the people who are going to lose their jobs have a right to know, don’t they? All the people who are going to see energy costs skyrocket have a right to know, don’t they?

Obama also said, when gas prices were so high, that he had no problem with the high price, he was just sorry the price had gone up so quickly. I think Americans have the right to know he said that, too. It is clear this man wants to bankrupt my family economy, as well as the country’s. Don’t we all have a right to know that?

Not exactly the "hope and change" I’m hoping for.

Why all the thumbs down? Knowledge is power, people.

I believe she was just trying to point out the truth. It seems the main stream media is so biased in regards to Obama that they don’t and won’t report any negative news. Palin was just trying to point out what he said. I bet it falls on deaf ears though. Obamanites follow blindly.

Oil Shortage… Did you know, right now, the US Air Force is flying planes on fuel made from liquefied coal?

Air Force leads push to liquefied coal fuel

By Dave Montgomery

McClatchy Newspapers

WASHINGTON — Squeezed by the soaring cost of oil-based jet fuel, the Air Force is converting its gas-guzzling fleet of aircraft to synthetic fuels and encouraging the creation of a liquefied coal industry that could tap the nation’s vast coal reserves.

This could mean a lucrative new market for coal-producing states such as Wyoming, Kentucky, Montana, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Texas and West Virginia. But advocates of liquefied coal face a counterattack from environmentalists in the debate over global warming and must prove that they can produce an ecologically friendly product with a low carbon footprint.

You can read the rest at the link… http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2004315533_coalpower30.html

I just read an article the other day about how the coal mining industry is suffering because of the economy, and this sounds like a win/win situation. However, Obama hates the coal mining industry and told the San Francisco Chronicle during the campaign that he knows his plan for America would bankrupt it. Does he know what the Air Force is doing?

Is this the real reason there’s an oil shortage?

Posted by admin on October 2nd, 2009 and filed under pennsylvania oil | 11 Comments »

A lot of folks can’t understand how we came to have an oil shortage here in our country.
~~~
Well, there’s a very simple answer.
~~~
Nobody bothered to check the oil.
~~~
We just didn’t know we were getting low.
~~~
The reason for that is purely geographical.
~~~
Our OIL is located in
~~~
ALASKA
~~~
California
~~~
Coastal Florida
~~~
Coastal Louisiana
~~~
Kansas
~~~
Oklahoma
~~~
Pennsylvania
and
Texas
~~~
Our DIPSTICKS are located in Washington, DC!!!
Any Questions???
NO? Didn’t think So.
Lighten up folks. That was just a poor attempt at humor.
We have not built a refinery in this country in over 30 years. The left has blocked it.
Estimates are there is about a 200 year supply of oil in ANWR. The left blocks drilling there.
Many a scientist have said there is more oil in the Gulf of Mexico then in all of Saudi Arabia. The left blocks drilling there.
Hows can that be?
Can revving an engine to get out of sand kill the alternator? Or did I destroy something else on my minivan?
Posted by admin on September 26th, 2009 and filed under pennsylvania oil | 2 Comments »
I have a 1994 Plymouth Grand Voyager — not a great car, but it hauls the kids around and appears to be in decent shape, particularly after getting it out of the Pennsylvania snow when we moved to Florida. I was driving on the beach today and got stuck in some sand; after revving the engine pretty hard to get out (I probably should have dropped to a lower gear), I noticed the battery meter had dropped down to the bottom, but I didn’t think much of it and just parked. A few hours later, when we left the beach, the car started fine, but after about a mile, the battery level dropped to bottom (as did the oil gauge), the car started shimmy-ing, and the speedometer started bouncing around randomly. I pulled into a gas station and turned it off; it wouldn’t restart and I got it towed. So, what did I do to the beast? I figure it’s not the battery; I just replaced that three weeks ago. Did I kill the alternator? Fry the wiring? Get sand somewhere it shouldn’t be? Mess up the fuel pump? Help!
The alternator stopped working and as a result, the power came from the battery. Once the battery was dead it would not start.
As the battery gave off it’s last ounces of energy the pistons began to not receive their ignition spark causing pressure loss and loss of overall power.
You may have only noticed it just then but it could have been earlier. Electrical components don’t usually warn you in any way that they’re approaching their demise they just short out or ground out at about the speed of light.
You’ll need a new alternator and a jump once you’ve got that in so that the alternator can recharge your battery.
Based on your story, I doubt it was your belt.
