Look at all the states and mines that would lose jobs under Obama’s
burdensome plan. What does he expect these workers to do?

Obama’s plans don’t seem to help solve our energy needs, reduce dependence on foreign oil or help the economy by closing an industry, many companies and losing millions of jobs.
Because he is an idiot when it comes to energy policy. He does not realize that the policies he espouses will bankrupt the common people and make electricity so expensive we will all have to do without at least part of the day. There is no quick replacement for coal fired power plants. Any nuclear plants are at least 20-30 years in the future and due to ignorance in the green sector none have been built. The manufacturers of solar and wind equipment are strapped to the limit and we have no way to distribute power from the remote wind locations so, his force disuse of coal will be counter productive. Especially since the clean idea of electric cars will outstrip all power production in just a few years. read very carefully a transition away from coal is a wise idea but it cannot happen quickly because it will put the economy in a much worse situation than it already is. Nations like France produce about 75-80% of electricity from nuclear cheaply and safely. Our only salvation is going to be to get nuclear plants online along with wind and solar quickly and with as little crap as possible otherwise I fear we may not survive as a people. He has some really stupid ideas and people are buying it. Duh

What kind of energy is he for? He’s spoken out against off shore drilling, drilling on the slopes of Alaska, against nuclear power plants.

STOP THE OBAMANATION OF OUR COUNTRY!!!!!
I am so tired of all you LEFT WING NUTS just regurgitating the same old crap that the fly-by-media news CNN, MSNBC, ABC ,CBS keep reporting not one of those groups will air a report that shows McCain/Palin in a favorable light. They continue to dismiss all of the facts that Obama is nothing but a liar and a cheat and he has stolen this election.
Just doing a little research you can see that while a state senator Barrack Hussein Obama’s Voting record was nothing but yes yes yes to raise taxes, start more welfare projects and in effect has ruined the economy of the state of Illinois. They are 42nd of 50 in education, the third or forth in highest debt for a state. So what do you think he will do to our total economy!!
Poor Hillary and I am not a supporter of hers but she was railroaded and had her nomination stolen from her but that goes back to the stupid way the dems decide on a candidate but just do a little research and you will see how he stole the nomination from her. ie….. his supporters locking the doors early at the caucuses and bringing bus loads of supports from other areas and allowing them to vote.
If we elect this man I am leaving this great country and so will many others including those that own companies that employee many of us or they will just go out of business because spreading the wealth around leaves no monies for expansion!
And, airline prices are not going to fall, they will only go up. Don’t you think it would be wise of all our politicians to start talking about a nationwide rail system that would include high speed rail that don’t use fossil fuels such as the meglev high speed rail. Which could also provide jobs for those out of work in our manufacturing sector states such as Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania and elsewhere in the U.S?
http://science.howstuffworks.com/maglev-train.htm
Ultimately, you have to admit our country needs to change to not only get off fossil fuels but to make more choices for transportation in local communities as well as across country.
Pied Piper… How do I know This? I read alot including the business pages of the newspaper.
Agreed. I have been touting a rail system for years vs ever widening highways.
In Chicago our local rail systems have been utilized for decades and they remain filled to capacity.
While living in NC I thought it would be great to parallel I-40 with a rail system to interconnect Winston-Salem, Greensboro, and Raleigh-Durham.
"I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs."
Thomas Jefferson (1743 – 1826),
Are we too late?
Can we take back the country?
"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary."

Have they gotten to you yet.
"shock doctrine" is being used to dump private debt into public payroll and a they will go through with it.
It worked after 9/11 it will work now.
Have they gotten to you through the media?
"Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
Benjamin Franklin (1706 – 1790), Historical Review of Pennsylvania, 1759
Founding fathers gave us freedom of speech and right to bear arms to protect us from future corrupt governments.
If freedom of speech is not effective, we have no choice but to arms ourselves against corporations and banks dressed up us government and public servants.
Watch out. Our nation is under attack not by terrorists and "endless series of hobgoblins" but by war profiteers, banks, oil and other corporations.
Osama Bin Laden is the distraction created to keep the public in constant fear seeking safety from government. People dependent on government are easier to control.
Guess why OBL is still alive. He is much needed alive than dead.
Do not fall for it.

"How is it possible for this small clique to bend the will of the majority, who stand to lose and suffer by a state of war, to the service of their ambitions. An obvious answer to this question would seem to be that the minority, the ruling class at present, has the schools and press, usually the Church as well, under its thumb. This enables it to organize and sway the emotions of the masses, and makes its tool of them. "
"What luck for rulers that men do not think"

Lincoln warned us as well just before he was murdered. said he "feared the enemy at his back more than the one at his front" referring to the cabal of banking interest (back) and the confederates (front)…
Andrew Johnson had 3 attempts on his life. He was trying to go back to a National bank like Lincoln.
I am starting to believe that they intend to attack someone soon possibly Iran since they have committed the same sin as Saddam did which is to sell oil on the Petro-Euro and in other currencies besides the dollar. Many other OPEC nations are warming to the idea. Japan and China are already buying oil on the new exchange set up by Iran (it is called a "bourse" but I have no idea what that is.)
Worse yet, maybe those camps built by KBR are actually work camps. A lot of lettuce pickers can be housed in them.
With that cheery thought I will bug off muttering to myself. Besides Mike Malloy is on . Only one of can be crazy at a time.

Ida Tarbell helped transform journalism by introducing what is called today investigative journalism. Through her achievements she not only helped to expand the role of the newspaper in modern society and stimulate the Progressive reform movement, but she also became a role model for women wishing to become professional journalists.Born on the oil frontier of western Pennsylvania in 1857, Tarbell was among the first women to graduate from Allegheny College in 1880. After trying her hand at the more traditional women’s job of teaching, Tarbell began writing and editing a magazine for the Methodist Church. Then, after studying in France for a few years, she joined S. S. McClure’s new reform-minded magazine in 1894. Initially she wrote two popular biographical series–on Napoleon and Abraham Lincoln. In 1902, she embarked on her ground breaking study of John D. Rockefellers Standard Oil Company, or what was called the Standard Oil Trust. Her History of the Standard Oil Company, published in 1904, was a landmark work of expos journalism that became known as "muckraking." Her exposure of Rockefeller’s unfair business methods outraged the public and led the government to prosecute the company for violations of the Sherman Anti-Trust Act. As a result, after years of precedent-setting litigation, the Supreme Court upheld the break-up of Standard Oil.As the most famous woman journalist of her time, Tarbell founded the American Magazine in 1906. She authored biographies of several important businessmen and wrote a series of articles about an extremely controversial issue of her day, the tariff imposed on goods imported from foreign countries. Of this series President Woodrow Wilson commented, She has written more good sense, good plain common sense, about the tariff than any man I know of.During World War I she joined the efforts to improve the plight of working women. In 1922, The New York Times named her one of the "Twelve Greatest American Women." It was journalism like hers that inspired Americans of the early twentieth century to seek reform in our government, in our economic structures, and in our urban areas. Along with other muckrakers like Lincoln Steffens, Ray Stannard Baker, and Upton Sinclair, Tarbell ushered in reform journalism. Ever since, newspapers have played a leading role as the watchdogs and consciences of our political, economic, and social lives.Although Tarbell was not, herself an advocate of womens issues or womens rights, as the most prominent woman active in the muckraking movement and one of the most respected business historians of her generation, Tarbell succeeded in a "male" world the world of journalism, business analysis, and world affairs, thus helping to open the door to other women seeking careers in journalism and, later, in broadcasting.By the early 1900s, John D. Rockefeller Sr. had finished building his oil empire. For over 30 years, he had applied his uncanny shrewdness, thorough intelligence, and patient vision to the creation of an industrial organization without parallel in the world. The new century found him facing his most formidable rival ever–not another businessman, but a 45-year-old woman determined to prove that Standard Oil had never played fair. The result, Ida Tarbell’s magazine series "The History of the Standard Oil Company," would not only change the history of journalism, but also the fate of Rockefeller’s empire, shaken by the powerful pen of its most implacable observer.Born in a log home in Hatch Hollow, northwestern Pennsylvania, on November 5, 1857, Ida Minerva Tarbell grew up amid the derricks of the Oil Region. Her father, Frank Tarbell, built wooden oil storage tanks and later became an oil producer and refiner. "Things were going well in father’s business," she would write years later. "There was ease such as we had never known; luxuries we had never heard of… Then suddenly [our] gay, prosperous town received a blow between the eyes." The 1872 South Improvement scheme, a hidden agreement between the railroads and refiners led by John D. Rockefeller, hit the Pennsylvania Oil Region like a tidal wave. It hit the Tarbells too, leaving behind painful memories that would be rekindled thirty years later. "Out of the alarm and bitterness and confusion, I gathered from my father’s talk a conviction to which I still hold — that what had been undertaken was wrong."After graduating from Allegheny College, the sole woman in the class of 1880, Tarbell moved to Ohio to teach science, but resigned after two years. She would find her true calling just months later back in Pennsylvania, when she met the editor of a small magazine, "The Chautauquan," published in Meadville, Pennsylvania. Tarbell’s inquisitive mind and her determination to have a career pushed her to become intensely invested in her writing and research projects. At 34, fascinated by the story of Madame Roland, the leader of an influential salon during the French Revolution, she moved to Pari

I lost my smoke juice and it’s $6 for a new bottle, I heard it’s possible to substitute it with cooking oil until I buy it. Is this true?
Don’t use cooking oil-the unit doesn’t get anywhere near hot enough to vaporize it. You’ll kill the smoke unit, and end up having to replace the whole thing(since the Pennsy Flyer has a sealed smoke unit that you can’t open and clean out). If you’ve already done this, a new smoke unit isn’t but $15 and easy to swap.
There really isn’t an acceptable substitute for the proper smoke fluid. Some folks claim that you can use lamp oil, but this really is a horrible idea and can cause serious problems(flames shooting out of the smoke stack serious).
I don’t know if Lionel’s started adding smoke off switches to this particular engine(my 15 year old one doesn’t have one), but if they have, I’d suggest turning the smoke unit off until you get more fluid.
If you don’t have a smoke off switch, you can easily temporarily disconnect the smoke. There are two screws which hold the valve guides and front truck in place. There should be a wire under one of these screws. Loosen the screw, disconnect the wire, and tape it off. This will also keep the headlight from working, however.

I have a 2003 diesel VW Beetle and have been thinking about doing this. Can anyone who has actually had a vehicle converted offer any advice on this? How difficult is it to get oil? For example would talking a 1000 mile road trip be out of the question? How much does the conversion cost? How do these fuel systems do in cold weather. I’m in NE Pennsylvania…do you know of a reputalbe WVO distributor/converter? Thanks for any advice -
While I enjoy reading everyone’s answers, I’d really like only serious ones, please…from people who have first (or at most second) hand knowledge with these systems. If you know, or heard they are bad, please provide details – WHY did the engine blow up? Again, thanks so much!
I’m afraid I’m starting to lose steam for this idea, so to speak. Here are some warnings I found about making biodiesel. This does NOT sound like a novice project to me!
- THESE ARE DANGEROUS/POISONOUS CHEMICALS
- YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR ACTIONS AND THE SAFETY OF YOURSELF AND
EVERYONE/EVERYTHING AROUND YOU
- METHANOL IS A POISON WHICH CAN BE ABSORBED THROUGH YOUR SKIN, BY
INHILATION, OR CONSUMPTION
- METHANOL CAN CAUSE BLINDNESS AND DEATH
- METHANOL IS AS FLAMMABLE AS GASOLINE/PETROL
- CARTRIDGE RESPIRATORS DO NOT WORK WITH METHANOL
- Sodium hydroxide (Caustic soda, NaOH, lye) can cause severe burns and death.
- Long-sleve shirt, full shoes and trousers are recommended, no shorts or sandals.
- Wear chemical proof gloves, apron, and eye protection.
- Do NOT inhale any vapors.
- Always have running water available to wash off any splashes.
The engine will NOT blow up by running WVO! It is the same thing as the Soy Diesel that you can get in most cities in the US.
First you need to make or buy the converter. It separates the solids that can clog fuel filters and cause fuel to gel up in cold weather. This is a link for kits to do it. You can make your own, I used to have the instructions for it but lost them and don’t remember where I found it.
http://www.veggiefuelsystems.com/
This is in reality better than petro-diesel, because it adds lubricants to the fuel that the government has required the fuel companies remove.
Your engine will NOT need to be modified.
Another trick is propane! You inject a VERY SMALL AMOUNT of propane into the engine it will act as an accelerant and will enable your engine to completely burn all fuel and virtually eliminate "black smoke". Your mileage should increase 2-6 MPG. Google it to find a kit for your car.
