What if Bush was in place of Clinton during the same Tech Boom years?

Posted by admin on December 6th, 2009 and filed under boom | 1 Comment »

Reason why I ask is because the economy Boom took care of itself therefore It would have been feasible to imagine our current Bush would have had the same success since the economy was very manageable at that time. Hence I would think we are giving the Clintons too much credit there.
The set up was ripe for the picking agree?

Well that’s very hard to prove one way or the other but your argument is plausible; by the same token, I think that the fall of the USSR would have occurred under any President, including Carter.

What I DO know is that neither Clinton or Carter or Reagan would have trashed the country like Bush has done.

For THAT mess, which we are now in and which we will have Hell to pay for, we can blame Bush entirely IMO. He was reckless and ignorant.

Why do I hear a boom from my speakers when I turn on my PC?

Posted by admin on December 3rd, 2009 and filed under boom | 1 Comment »

I have come across several PCs and some of them simply seem to produce a moderate boom through the speakers whenever I turn them on. My main PC does not do that but my mediaPC does that and it gets both irritating and scary at times, especially when I least expect it. Is there anyway to turn it off?

It’s power surge. Normally will occur during power up.

Turn off the volume of the speakers before you turn on the PC.
If your speakers power are tapped from another power socket, turn on the speaker only after the PC is on.

Why is it that a subsonic aircraft cannot produce a sonic boom?

Posted by admin on November 28th, 2009 and filed under boom | 1 Comment »

Midterm question: Why is it that a subsonic aircraft, no matter how loud it may be, cannot produce a sonic boom?

Sound is a pressure wave.

As an object moves through the air, the pressure wave propagates ahead of it.

If the object starts traveling faster than the pressure wave, then the wave will build up in front of it, and produce a high pressure wake behind it.

To illustrate this, it’s similar to a boat traveling quickly through the water. If it travels faster than the waves it produces, then you get a huge wake, which will be familiar to anyone who enjoys sailing, but are plagued by the presence of power boats.

This wake is the same as the sonic boom. It doesn’t occur if you’re not traveling faster than the speed of sound.

What is the tension force and the force applied by the boom?

Posted by admin on November 24th, 2009 and filed under boom | 2 Comments »

A 4.0 kg sign hangs from a boom supported by a cable connected to a wall. The cable makes a 30 degree angle with the boom.

does the wall provide any vertical force? If it does, we need to take that into account in solving this problem (we would need to know the length of the sign)

If we are not worried about a vertical force from the wall, then we realize that the weight of the sign is supported by the vertical component of tension in the boom.

The vertical component of the tension is Tsin30, so we have

Tsin30= weight = 4kg x 9.8m/s/s

T=39.2N/sin30=78.4N

Is it possible to hit a sonic boom on ground level?

Posted by admin on November 19th, 2009 and filed under boom | 1 Comment »

I’ve just been curious if hitting a sonic boom on ground level is physically possible. If it is, then what would happen to the ground beneath the object hitting the sonic boom?

They made a rocket propelled car that ended up breaking the sound barrier. (look it up)

I’m not too sure a bout the specific details, but you could definitely start there. ^_^

During the internet boom of the late 1990’s the stock prices of many internet firms sorared to extreme heights?

During the internet boom of the late 1990’s the stock prices of many internet firms sorared to extreme heights. As CEO of such a firm, if you believed your stockwas significantly over valued, would using your stock to acquire non-internet stock be a wise idea, even if you had to pay a small premium over thier fair market value to make the acquisition?

Well obviously using the overvalued stocks to get into undervalued stocks before the crash would’ve been the best idea you could had come up with at that time. If you saw the crash coming a mile away the best thing was to sell all your shares.

Are the massive drops of interest rates & falling shareprices the start for a new property boom?

Posted by admin on November 12th, 2009 and filed under boom | 4 Comments »

In Sydney at least, current conditions are:

- Sharemarket volatility
- Bear market
- Massive cuts of interest rates
- Few new housing constructions because of the recession
- Rental shortages
- Years of stagnant property prices (property bubble popped in 2004-3).

Good conditions for the next property boom?

One would think so, however most banks are not lending, and unless one has a big cash down say 20% a loan could be difficult.

I don’t see real estate prices recovering to previous highs until at least 2019. This is based on the historic trend that real estate prices move in 13 year cycles. If 2006 was the top, add 13 years to the next near top.

Have you ever heard a sonic boom? How did you react to it?

Posted by admin on November 9th, 2009 and filed under boom | 3 Comments »

I live in Orlando, FL. I just heard the shuttle come in and it makes TWO very loud sonic booms when it comes into the atmosphere. It is so loud that it sounds like bombs going off or Howitzers (Cannons) firing.
Anyway, I served in Iraq and have PTSD. I was not expecting the shuttle to come in today and it startled me a little. I was thinking that probably scared the hell out of some tourists at Disney World.
But how did you react when you heard a loud sonic boom?

I haven’t heard one since I was a kid. I’m sure I pooped my pants a little.
