What is the washout rate for a boom operator in the USAF?

Posted by admin on October 14th, 2009 and filed under boom | 1 Comment »

My boyfriend is in the air force and he’s extremely nervous about washing out. He is going to be a boom operator and wants to know the washout rate. He’s motivated to do this so I don’t have any worries, but he still wants to know.

It shouldn’t matter and isn’t something he should be spending time worrying about. If he instead focuses on learning the job and doing what he is supposed to do then he will be fine. KC-135 or KC-10? I would wager the rate would be higher for KC-135 guys (and gals) due to spending all the time in Altus dealing with the douche-bag MTL’s that are there. KC-10 guys have it better because after there initial schools they are upgraded at their first duty station and become part of the operational Air Force and not the AETC crap.

Either way congrats to him for picking one of the best enlisted jobs in the military.

If he is going to be on 135’s, tell him that even though Altus sucks, the MTL’s are dicks, and there are all sorts of lame stupid restrictions, once he gets to his first base he will have one of the best jobs and a great time. It trulyy is one of the best 2 enlisted jobs.

How do I get a job in the oil industry with a BSc?

Posted by admin on October 14th, 2009 and filed under oil industry | 1 Comment »

I have my BSc and a diploma in medical laboratory sciences. Theres not much oppurtunity where I live for a career in this, and I really want to stay where I am as I’m buying a house very soon here. Oil is getting big here on the east coast of canada. There are several companies here. Hebron has just signed on. I would be interested in getting a job with an oil company but don’t have an engineering degree or geology background. Are there any jobs someone with my background would be suitable for? Thanks.

I would think there are jobs you can fill. Most companies have employment info on their websites.

why do we blame the oil companies for the high gas prices?

The goverment makes more money on taxes then the oil companies do on profits. The goverment regulations for dozen of local formulations cost us more then any proven benefit is worth.

cause everyone is sadly mistaken whos making the money

Will pepper oil or garlic oil prevent cats from chewing on plants?

Posted by admin on October 14th, 2009 and filed under oil | 2 Comments »

I’m wanting to buy a philodendron plant, but am afraid one of our cats will see it and try and eat it, mistaking it for her cat grass. I’m wondering if pepper oil used for cooking sprinkled on the plant will work, or, alternatively, hurt the plant. Or what about garlic oil on the plant? I know that pepper on the skin can burn, so am wondering if it could do the same on the plant. Or, is there any type of spray that can be used to prevent the cat from getting near the plant before she chews the leaves? Philodendrons are poisonous to cats, so I don’t want her to even chew on it, which is why I want to avoid bitter apple spray. Hope all this makes sense, and thanks in advance?

Just plain black pepper sprinkled on the soil should work, I’ve also used lemon pepper to keep the cats out of the house plants. Actually, my cats have never bothered any of the many varieties of philodendra that I’ve grown, they sometimes are interested in spider plants until they’ve investigated thoroughly. The only plants my cats have ever ruined have been small cacti … for some reason, the cats remove them from the pots and play chase the ball with them.

Does anyone have experience with converting a diesel vehicle to run on waste vegetable oil (WVO)?

Posted by admin on October 14th, 2009 and filed under pennsylvania oil | 8 Comments »

I have a 2003 diesel VW Beetle and have been thinking about doing this. Can anyone who has actually had a vehicle converted offer any advice on this? How difficult is it to get oil? For example would talking a 1000 mile road trip be out of the question? How much does the conversion cost? How do these fuel systems do in cold weather. I’m in NE Pennsylvania…do you know of a reputalbe WVO distributor/converter? Thanks for any advice -
While I enjoy reading everyone’s answers, I’d really like only serious ones, please…from people who have first (or at most second) hand knowledge with these systems. If you know, or heard they are bad, please provide details – WHY did the engine blow up? Again, thanks so much!
I’m afraid I’m starting to lose steam for this idea, so to speak. Here are some warnings I found about making biodiesel. This does NOT sound like a novice project to me!

- THESE ARE DANGEROUS/POISONOUS CHEMICALS
- YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR ACTIONS AND THE SAFETY OF YOURSELF AND
EVERYONE/EVERYTHING AROUND YOU
- METHANOL IS A POISON WHICH CAN BE ABSORBED THROUGH YOUR SKIN, BY
INHILATION, OR CONSUMPTION
- METHANOL CAN CAUSE BLINDNESS AND DEATH
- METHANOL IS AS FLAMMABLE AS GASOLINE/PETROL
- CARTRIDGE RESPIRATORS DO NOT WORK WITH METHANOL
- Sodium hydroxide (Caustic soda, NaOH, lye) can cause severe burns and death.
- Long-sleve shirt, full shoes and trousers are recommended, no shorts or sandals.
- Wear chemical proof gloves, apron, and eye protection.
- Do NOT inhale any vapors.
- Always have running water available to wash off any splashes.

The engine will NOT blow up by running WVO! It is the same thing as the Soy Diesel that you can get in most cities in the US.

First you need to make or buy the converter. It separates the solids that can clog fuel filters and cause fuel to gel up in cold weather. This is a link for kits to do it. You can make your own, I used to have the instructions for it but lost them and don’t remember where I found it.

This is in reality better than petro-diesel, because it adds lubricants to the fuel that the government has required the fuel companies remove.

Your engine will NOT need to be modified.

Another trick is propane! You inject a VERY SMALL AMOUNT of propane into the engine it will act as an accelerant and will enable your engine to completely burn all fuel and virtually eliminate "black smoke". Your mileage should increase 2-6 MPG. Google it to find a kit for your car.

Why, as one answer to a previous question, would Canada ever dream of lowering itself to be he 51st state?

Posted by admin on October 14th, 2009 and filed under the new american oil boom | 6 Comments »

One reply to my question about "could Alaska succeed if it decided to?..was that Canada would become the 51st stste ot that Canada,Mexico would join the US to become a super nation..not likely…as one US president said, we don’t want Canada to be a part of us because they would all vote democrat and the republicans would be history….what I find shocking is the ignorance of the answers…Canada takes care of its own, the economy is booming, our dollar is prepared to overtake the American dollar, we are like worldwide, anyone can run in elections, we have resources including oil and we have water that will become a valuable commodity, we have a multicultural system that works, we have culture, we are generally a multi language country where all can find services in their own language and I can travel on this road all afternoon..no, not a chnce of that ever happening…

Canada is a beautiful place, better in many aspects than many other countries in the world. If I ever left the country where I am living now, Canada would be a very possible destination. My only complaint is in Canada people eat too many things with vinegar!
